“ During the festive season, I generally steer clear of anything outside the Deep South territory. Nothing against the city’s hustle and bustle, but it can be a little overwhelming, especially if parallel parking isn’t your strong suit. That said, I found myself at the Cape Quarter last week and was genuinely pleasantly surprised. Yes, it’s busy, but somehow the vibe inside is calm and collected, the perfect contrast to everything happening outside. As the Google description says, it’s a “sophisticated retail centre”, and I couldn’t agree more. The piazza is probably my favourite feature, a lovely place to get some fresh air, a little sun, and most importantly, eat well. I had a look around and then spotted something that felt familiar, but refreshed. Yumcious. Same comforting soul, now in a beautifully renovated space. When I used to live in town, I frequented Yumcious for their Harvest Table, which I always remembered as generous, nourishing, and deeply comforting, like a warming home-cooked meal. Walking back in felt nostalgic, but new at the same time. A reminder that change doesn’t have to be a bad thing; sometimes it’s even better. Since it was a beautiful day, I chose to sit outside while waiting for the Harvest Table to open. There really is an art to choosing the right combination, one I’m still perfecting. While waiting, I was greeted by a lovely waitress with the most vibrant smile. She was attentive but relaxed, which I really appreciated, especially with a self-serve setup where you can sometimes feel overlooked. When the dishes were ready, it was a full sensory experience. Colours everywhere, glossy beetroot, vibrant greens, golden pastry, and rich, earth-toned sauces. I tried to be intentional: some warm, some fresh, some comforting, and a few unexpected elements. I started with a generous slice of chicken pie, packed with flavourful chicken and wrapped in a crisp, light pastry that supported the filling beautifully. Proper comfort food done right. The vegetarian frittata was soft, fluffy, and freshly made, with creamy feta adding just the right lift. A thoughtful vegetarian option that didn’t feel like an afterthought. The salads were equally impressive. The wasabi coleslaw was crunchy and creamy, with a gentle heat that cut through the richness perfectly. The glossy beetroot salad was lightly glazed, balanced, and grounding. And then there’s the seaweed salad, the dish that truly sets Yumcious apart for me. Savoury, umami-rich, and completely unique. It sounds unusual, but makes complete sense once you taste it. Fair warning: it’s addictive. What really stands out is the consistency. Every element feels considered, fresh, and genuinely delicious. It’s the kind of place where you trust the food completely, which makes it hard not to choose the same favourites again. That said, with the menu constantly evolving, there’s always something new to try, and that’s what keeps me coming back. Thank you, Yumcious, until next time! ”
